Art at Colyton
Our art co-ordinator is Mrs Derryman.
At Colyton Primary Academy, we encourage the children to see themselves as artists and believe that the art curriculum should challenge and stimulate their creativity, inventiveness and imagination. Our art curriculum provides a clear and comprehensive scheme of work that shows the progression of skills across the key stages within the strands of the National Curriculum as well as equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art.
We aim to provide an inspiring, practical art curriculum that builds on the children’s early creative experiences and natural desire to express themselves. Through our teaching, we intend to give all children opportunities to explore and investigate colour, texture, form and pattern through a range of materials. They will develop the knowledge, key skills and techniques needed to create artwork in a range of different forms including sketching, painting, sculpting, printing and working with digital media. Children will revisit the skills over time, building on their knowledge and understanding and will record their journey in a sketchbook. The children will learn about and be inspired by artists, craft makers and architects from a variety of backgrounds and reflect on the impact of art and artists on culture and history. To enrich the curriculum we provide opportunities for children to meet and work with artists we are studying.
