The internet is a fantastic resource and place to explore for children, both in school and at home. However, it is not always the safest place and it can be difficult for parents to monitor what children are exposed to.

 

We have held online safety meetings for parents to help advise about keeping children safe online and here is some of the links and resources that were discussed. The most important thing you can do with your children is to talk about it internet safety with them. The internet changes fast and various sites and practices fall in and out of fashion, so talking and discussing safety issues, e.g. not revealing personal information, not making friends of people you wouldn’t in real life etc., is the best thing you can do as a parent.

 

There are also ways of preventing unwanted content on internet connected devices and other parental controls; below are links to give further advice on how to do this. We take internet safety very seriously, obvious precautions are taken when we go with children into the world outside our doorstep, precaution is needed too when we all step into the online world.

 

Who are CEOP?

 

CEOP help children stay safe online. The NCA’s CEOP Command (formerly the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) works with child protection partners across the UK and overseas to identify the main threats to children and coordinates activity against these threats to bring offenders to account. They protect children from harm online and offline, directly through NCA led operations and in partnership with local and international agencies.

 

When should you report to CEOP?

 

If someone acted inappropriately towards you online, or to a child or young person you know? It may be sexual chat, being asked to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable or someone being insistent on meeting up. You can report it to us by clicking on the logo below.
